FAQS - INTERIOR DOOR INSTALLATION

Q:  WHY IS THERE A NEED FOR A NEW SERVICE SPECIALIZING IN INTERIOR DOORS?

We believe that the many people have been deterred from taking advantage of the
transforming effects of updating their interior doors by expensive, disruptive and
inconvenient installation methods used in the past.

Previously, interior door replacement was done using one of two standard methods,
the old-fashioned measure and cut method, or the use of a pre-hung door and frame unit.
Both of these methods have significant drawbacks which we think have deterred
homeowners from changing their outdated doors.

We reasoned that if we could find a way to efficiently and inexpensively exchange just
the door with one that complements the home's architectural style, we could better
serve a previously poorly served market.

In fact, being aware that many people are unhappy with the detracting effects of the
doors that came with their home, and not having a satisfactory method of addressing
this issue, is the inspiration for the founding of our company.

Q:  WHAT MAKES INSTALLING INTERIOR DOORS SO DEMANDING?

The real difficulty with installing doors into an existing frame is that there are multiple
interdependent cutting operations that must be performed correctly with little chance to
check the effect of any one operation, before all the cutting is done.

For example, it's impossible to check the true fit of the door into the opening, until
both the overall size has been cut, and the hinges have been mounted into precisely cut
recesses, called hinge mortises. Using the conventional method, if any mistakes were
made, it wouldn't be seen until it's too late.

The one exception to this is marking the position of the lockset mounting holes, after
the door has been properly cut to size, the hinges have been installed, and the door fits
correctly into the opening.

Q:  WHAT'S THE PROCEDURE IN ORDERING YOUR SERVICE?

1)    You either call or email us. Usually, a trained installer will respond
to your call or message.

If you do not reach a live person when calling, as long as you leave your contact
information, you can be assured that we will quickly return your call.

Please note that we do not believe in telemarketing, or spamming, so please do not
hesitate to leave a message. We aim to be easy and hassle-free to deal with.

2)    We set an appointment for a free, no obligation quote.

We advise you on
the type of doors, hardware and locksets that best suit
your taste and budget.

We also inspect for any damage to the door jambs that may need repair.
Repairing minor damage is complimentary, but we will need to charge extra if the
damage is more extensive.

We give you a written quote, and explain all the written conditions and guarantees
of our service.

3)  After the quote, if you decide to order our service, we print an
Order Form that is signed by both you and our company.

We can also set your future installment appointment during this time.

In contrast, home improvement stores typically require an upfront $35.00 measuring quote
and you are usually required to make the deposit in person. This fee is applied to your
order, should you decide to proceed. We do not believe in charging for a quote which should
be free.

In addition, you can wait up to three days for a call to set the quote appointment, then an
additional three days to set the installation appointment.

Also, home improvement stores typically require the contractor to get approval for any
changes or additions to the original job, necessitating a wait from the store.
Since we are an independent contractor that does not use a middleman, we do not
need to get approval from a third party to make changes.

Our objective is to make things as fast, and effortless as possible for your busy life!

4)    We call to confirm the installment appointment the day before.

Q:  WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN YOU INSTALL MY NEW DOORS?

Other than to repeat that you can expect very little noise, mess, or disruption inside
your home, what you can expect is described in the "Our Process" page of our website.

Q:  WHAT IF MY DOORS DON'T FIT PROPERLY IN THEIR FRAMES NOW?

Will your system just create another door that won't close properly, or is cut too
high above the floor, or has unsightly gaps all around it?

The answer is No.

The overall dimensioning component of our duplicating system, is the one part that does
not transfer the dimensions of the existing door, without properly adjusting for the
changes that occur to a door jamb over time.

Our system adjusts to correct for a poor fit, due to various reasons, i.e., settling of the house,
and improper height above the floor due to cutting made for changes in the floor level, etc.

Our method enables us to fit the new door to look and operate properly. It corrects,
rather than replicates the problems associated with improperly fitting doors.

Q:  WHAT IS THE REAL COST OF YOUR SERVICE PER DOOR
AND WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE OR EXCLUDE?

Our regular low price starts at $119.99 per door installed, for most popular styles
in-stock of hollow-core, raised panel, molded interior doors.

This includes the
molded (to look like a raised panel) door, appropriate hinges to
match your locksets and custom fitting of the replacement door into your existing
door jamb, also the cutting of necessary recesses for installing a lockset
(door knob or lever or handle).

Painting is not included to allow us to better serve our customers through specialization.

Most customers prefer painting their own doors. We do charge extra for
painting, if the client requests it, or refer them to a competent painter.

A lockset is also not included, because of the variety of choices, and
therefore, the prices are not standard
.

Compare Our Price with Conventional Contractors

Our offer is the equivalent value of materials and labor that most contractors charge
for over twice as much to provide.

A conventional contractor's basic service price is: $180.00 for labor to install
a door, plus an additional $70.00 to $100.00 for a pre-hung door unit,
which brings you nothing additional for your money.

Their service costs more in lost peace of mind, while your home is being disrupted,
because your perfectly good door jambs and moldings are being unnecessarily ripped
out.

Unlike typical contractors, we work outside your home, not causing noise and a mess
inside your home.

Q:  ARE OTHER TYPES OF DOORS MORE EXPENSIVE OTHER THAN YOUR
BASIC SERVICE OFFER OF HOLLOW-CORE, MOLDED DOORS?

Yes, just as with any other home remodeling job, materials costs vary, depending on the
types of materials being used. Please see our "Style & Price Guide" page.

Since we are a service company, rather than a retailer, our business is to provide a superior installation service at a better price, than available elsewhere.

While we do have some ability to some purchase materials at a discount, there are times
when we must purchase materials at full retail, just like any other consumer, and other
home remodeling professionals.

Q:  CAN YOU BUY LOCKSETS IF I REQUEST THEM & IS THE INSTALLATION FREE?

Yes, we will buy them if you request. However, most customers prefer browsing a
selection themselves, feeling the locksets and purchasing them.

Our supplying the locksets is more for the convenience of our customers, than a
profit-generating part of our business.

We think it's only fair that we do not mark up the costs of your locksets:
We charge you only what we've paid for them.

Yes, the labor installation of the locksets is free.

This applies if you have the locksets available on the day of your door
installation job.

This is to ensure that we have the locksets on hand to test, and to ensure proper
operation of the doors, as part of the installation process.

Unlike other contractors, we do not believe in charging for a courtesy service.

Q:  WHY DO YOU OFFER A FREE IN HOME MEASURING AND PRICE QUOTE,
RATHER THAN A FREE ESTIMATE?

We do not give free estimates, we give free price quotes, instead.

The difference between an Estimate and a Price Quote is that a price quote
doesn’t change.

Estimates can change, and are used by some of our competitors to cover for any
unforeseen difficulties or delays, which are more likely when removing the door molding
and door frame to prepare for installing a pre-hung door and frame unit.

Unlike conventional installers, we know exactly what’s involved when changing a door
using our system, and can confidently charge a definite price.

Once quoted, this price will not change.
